First, let’s talk about the CVT overview. It stands for Continuously Variable Transmission. Like the traditional automatic transmission, once engaged, it requires no further action from the driver. The CVT, however, has no gears. It works using a system of dual pulleys. The idea behind this newer transmission is a smoother transition between lower and higher speeds, as well as increased fuel economy. While this works well in theory, some Nissan applications have been problematic. Generally, the issues have been reported between 2012/2013 and 2018.
